One lakh in Tamil words is ஒரு லட்சம் (oru latcham). Tamil groups numbers the Indian way, in ஆயிரம் (thousand), லட்சம் (lakh) and கோடி (crore), so a cheque for 1,25,500 reads ஒரு லட்சத்து இருபத்தைந்தாயிரத்து ஐந்நூறு ரூபாய் மட்டும்.

Choose the Wording You Need

- Tamil Words gives a cardinal number, the form used to say how many. This mode accepts whole numbers only.
- Cheque Amount adds ரூபாய், the paise part if it is nonzero, and மட்டும். Enter the decimal point yourself; commas are grouping marks.
- Ordinal gives position: முதல் for first, இரண்டாம் for second, and the corresponding ஆம் form for later positions. Zero has no ordinal here.
The three copy buttons have separate jobs. The main Copy button takes the selected Tamil wording. Copy Numerals takes the digits displayed below it, including grouping and any decimal part. Copy English takes a rupee amount in English, whatever Tamil mode is selected.
How Tamil Number Names Join
Tamil Virtual Academy’s lessons on எண்ணுப்பெயர்ப் புணர்ச்சி explain changes when number names join other words. The converter applies joined forms inside tens, so 21 is இருபத்தொன்று and 25 is இருபத்தைந்து. The irregular 90 and 900 are தொண்ணூறு and தொள்ளாயிரம்.

The ending matters: an exact thousand ends in ஆயிரம்; a following remainder uses ஆயிரத்து. Similarly, lakh becomes லட்சத்து before a remainder, and crore uses கோடியே. For readability this tool puts a space at hundred and larger group boundaries, for example நூற்று ஒன்று. Fully joined spelling such as நூற்றொன்று is another presentation of that boundary.
Usage and spelling vary. This tool chooses ஒன்பது for 9 and ஐந்நூறு for 500. You may encounter the simplified spelling ஐநூறு; it is not the spelling generated here. It uses ஒன்பதாயிரம் for 9,000 rather than the extended form ஒன்பதினாயிரம். Review house style when preparing a formal document.
Positional Digits and Traditional Numerals
The numeral output is positional: 125500 becomes ௧௨௫௫௦௦. Each digit keeps its place, and zero is ௦. This is distinct from traditional notation using the signs ௰ for ten, ௱ for hundred and ௲ for thousand, documented in Unicode’s Tamil chart.
For example, traditional 25 can be written ௨௰௫, meaning two tens plus five. The output on this page instead reads ௨௫. We keep these systems separate: this page does not generate traditional multiplicative notation or convert historical fractions. How do I write 125500 in Tamil words?
The converter gives ஒரு லட்சத்து இருபத்தைந்தாயிரத்து ஐந்நூறு. In Indian grouping, this is 1,25,500. Choose Cheque Amount to add the currency and the closing word. Check the grouped value beneath the result and use the main Copy button for words, rather than Copy Numerals.
Can I enter paise for a cheque?
Yes. Choose Cheque Amount and enter a decimal such as 125500.25. One decimal place is interpreted as tenths of a rupee: .5 becomes 50 paise. More than two decimal places are rejected so your amount is never silently rounded. Check both the rupee and paise parts before copying the output.
Why does one become ஒரு instead of ஒன்று?
ஒன்று is the standalone number. Before the currency noun this tool writes ஒரு ரூபாய், and before lakh it writes ஒரு லட்சம். Tamil number names change when they join another word; simply putting the standalone number words together misses those changes.
Does this convert negative numbers or fractions?
It accepts nonnegative whole numbers up to 99,99,99,999. Cheque mode also accepts two decimal places. Negative numbers, scientific notation and general fractions are outside this tool’s supported range. Remove currency symbols before entering a value, and check the error message beneath the input if conversion is rejected.
Can I use the result directly on a cheque?
Copy the wording, then compare it with the numeric amount and the payee details before writing it. The English copy uses Indian lakh and crore grouping too. The tool formats text; it does not check a bank’s requirements or validate a cheque.
Is the number sent to a server?
No. Conversion and copying run in this browser. The input is not stored by this tool. Use the copy button beside the output you want. On a shared device, clear the visible input when you finish. Keep any amount history in your own document, because this tool has none.
Can I paste an amount with commas or a rupee symbol?
You can use valid Indian or three-digit comma grouping, but leave out the rupee symbol and currency abbreviations. For example, enter 1,25,500.25 in Cheque Amount mode. Incorrect grouping produces an error instead of a guessed amount. Check the grouped number beneath the output before copying any wording.
How do I copy Tamil digits instead of Tamil number words?
Use Copy Numerals beside Tamil Positional Numerals. It copies a digit representation of the grouped value, while the main Copy button copies the word output. These are separate formats: choose numerals for digits in a design or teaching example, and words when you need the amount spelled out.
Can this tool write first, second and other ordinal numbers?
Yes. Choose Ordinal and enter a whole number of at least 1. Zero has no supported ordinal, and decimals need Cheque Amount mode instead. Check that Ordinal is selected before copying a position in a list; the default Tamil Words output describes a quantity rather than an ordered place.
Can I convert a whole spreadsheet of amounts at once?
No. This page converts one input value at a time and has no spreadsheet upload or batch export. Enter an amount, check the grouped value and copy the appropriate output before replacing the input. The tool does not save previous amounts, so keep any record you need in your own document.
