Install the Tamil Typing App
தமிழ் தட்டச்சு செயலி
Put TypeTamilOnline on your home screen or desktop. It opens like an app, and the tools work without internet.
Short answer
There is nothing to download from an app store. Open typetamilonline.com in Chrome or Edge and choose Install from the browser menu, or in Safari on iPhone tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It is free, needs no account, and every tool is saved for offline use.
On this device
- Open your browser’s menu and look for Install or Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm, and the app appears with your other apps.
Android (Chrome)
Open typetamilonline.com in Chrome.
Tap the More menu (⋮) on the right of the address bar.
Tap Install and create shortcut, then Install, and follow the prompts.
iPhone and iPad (Safari)
Open typetamilonline.com in Safari.
Tap Share. Depending on your tab layout, it may be inside the ⋯ menu.
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. Leave Open as Web App on, then tap Add.
If Add to Home Screen is missing, scroll to the bottom of the list, tap Edit Actions and add it.
Windows, Mac and Linux (Chrome or Edge)
Open typetamilonline.com.
Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar. Or, in Chrome, open the More menu (⋮), then Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app.
Click Install. The app gets its own window and a Start menu, Dock or launcher entry.
What Works Offline
Every page you open is saved by your browser, so it opens again without a connection. When you install the app, or press Save all tools for offline use above, every tool is saved at once: the Tamil editor, Tanglish to Tamil, transliteration, the on-screen and layout keyboards, typing practice, and the Bamini and Unicode converters.
Two things still need a connection: voice typing, because speech recognition uses your browser’s online service, and translation in browsers that cannot translate on the device. Your drafts are saved on the device as you type, online or not.
Questions People Ask
Is this a real Tamil typing app or just a website?
It is a website that you can also install as a web app. Installation gives you an app-style entry point and this site attempts to save tools for offline opening. That does not make every feature offline: voice services and server translation have separate requirements. Test your chosen tool before relying on it without a connection.
Do I need to download Tamil typing software?
No. Every tool on this site works in your browser as it is, and installing it as an app is optional. Windows and Mac also have Tamil keyboards built in, so you do not need a separate program for those either.
How big is it?
The download size depends on the pages and resources saved, so this page does not give a fixed app size. Save all tools for offline use downloads more than opening a single typing page. The spelling and typing dictionary is a separate resource loaded when needed. Use a connection with enough data before saving the whole site.
Do I need to install a Tamil font?
No extra font download is needed to write in this app’s editor, which loads its own Tamil font. Installing the app does not install that font for every other program. If pasted Tamil displays incorrectly elsewhere, use the font troubleshooting guide rather than reinstalling the writing app.
Does it replace my phone keyboard?
No. It is a writing app: you type in it and copy the Tamil into WhatsApp, email or anything else. To type Tamil directly in every app, add the Tamil keyboard on your phone. Our guides cover each device: Tamil keyboard for Android, iPhone Tamil keyboard and Tamil keyboard for PC.
Can I use it offline without installing?
Yes, saved pages can open offline without installing an app icon. While connected, use Save all tools for offline use and then test the pages you need with the connection disabled. Saving a page does not make server translation or online speech services available offline, and resources not yet downloaded may still be missing.
How do I uninstall it?
Remove it like any other app: touch and hold the icon on your phone, or on a computer open the app, then the browser menu, and choose Uninstall. To delete the saved copy and your drafts too, clear this site’s data in your browser settings.
Will installing the app sync my saved Tamil drafts?
No. Installing adds a way to open the site; it does not create an account or a draft-sync service. Keep using the browser profile where you wrote your drafts. Download important text before changing browser, device or profile, and do not rely on installation as a backup of your writing.
Does offline installation include voice recognition and online translation?
No. Saving pages does not download every service used by a browser or an external provider. Local typing can work from saved resources, while server translation and online voices need a connection. Test the particular tool in airplane mode before depending on it for travel, a lesson or an appointment.
Why is the Install the app button not showing?
This page shows that button only after the browser supplies an installation prompt. You can still use the site normally when it is absent. In Chrome on a computer, open More, then Cast, save, and share, and look for Install page as app. The device-specific instructions above cover the other installation routes.
